No matter what happens tomorrow, I most likely need to head in to work in the morning in Rossyln from McLean. I went ahead and got the chains onto my FWD car this evening while the weather was still pretty manageable. A nosey neighbor came by to let me know that tire chains are illegal in VA...wtf? Growing up decades ago in southwest VA, tire chains were commonly seen during a big snow.
I'm getting confilcting info from the Virginia State code (https://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+46.2-1044) and some consolidated state lists around the web on using tire chains in the snow. Specifically these are tire cables, if that makes any difference. (http://www.autosportcatalog.com/winter-driving/z-chains-traction-cables.cfm). It's never crossed my mind that they may be illegal, and I've used them a handful of times over the years.
So, experts, are tire chains/cables legal to use in the snow in VA?
Thanks.
