Here is something I am not thankful for; loopholes in the Clean Water Act have resulted in more than 400,000 pounds of toxic pollution being dumped into the Potomac River in a single. The main culprit is large poultry producers including Purdue and Tyson which are located on steams that feed into the Potomac. Runoff containing animal waste from factory farms is a top polluter of waterways all over the country.
We need the EPA to expand the clean water act to all of our great rivers and streams in the US so that these Big polluters will pay for their damage and also incentivize these hugely profitable businesses to help create and implement solutions to close the loop in the waste stream.
To stand up and protect our waterways you should join Environment America, a citizen based environmental advocacy group, in urging Administrator McCarthy to formally propose a rule to restore Clean Water Act protections to all rivers and streams across the country.
