A passenger in a Honda Accord involved in a police chase through Fairfax early Saturday died when the 15-year-old driver wrecked near U.S. 29 and U.S. 50.
A state trooper attempted to stop the Honda around 12:45 a.m. after he spotted it driving erratically on westbound Main Street (Va. 236), state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
“When the trooper activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the Honda, it sped away from the trooper,” Geller said in an email.
At the intersection of U.S. 29 and U.S. 50, the driver ran a red light and struck a Toyota Camry.
“The Camry had the green light and was coming through the intersection when it was struck,” Geller said.
The passenger in the Honda, a male, died at the scene. State police have not released his name or age pending notification of his family.
The Honda’s driver ran from the scene but was quickly apprehended nearby. The 15-year-old Fairfax boy suffered minor injuries.
He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, eluding police, felony hit and run and driving without a license, Geller said.
The driver of the Toyota Camry suffered non life-threatening injuries.
