Investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies in central Virginia are shifting the search for a missing 17-year-old girl to Albemarle County in a new attempt to find her.
According to NBC29 in Charlottesville, authorities have moved at least a portion of their search efforts from Nelson County, where Alexis Murphy disappeared from Saturday night, to Albemarle County, where her car was found Tuesday.
The FBI, Virginia State Police and numerous local agencies are assisting in the search for Alexis. Her car was found near a movie theater in Albemarle County, after which police went door-to-door in the area to canvas for the girl.
NBC29 says Alexis was reportedly on her way to Lynchburg when she disappeared.
According to ABC 13 in western Virginia, the car Murphy was driving belonged to her father and was fond near another family member's home.
"It makes you feel a little wary (and) a little concerned," Michael Brown, Alexis' uncle, told ABC 13. "With a sense of urgency, like 'Where is she at?'"
Murphy is described as a 5-foot-7-inch black girl with black hair and brown eyes. The FBI says she has piercings in her right nostril and upper lip. She was last seen wearing a pink blouse, floral-patterned spandex tights and brown boots.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Nelson County authorities at 434-263-7050.
